Based on the Future-S Concept, Maruti S-Presso will rival against the like of Kwid and redi-GO.

Maruti Suzuki has gained an unparalleled status in the small car segment with a wide range of popular models, especially the Maruti Alto K10 and Alto 800, which have been two major best-selling models in the entry-level price range. Maruti had been sleeping on the success of its unbeatable small cars for years. It has been 7 years since Maruti launched its latest all-new entry-level car. However, the current downturn in the market has Maruti change its strategy and move toward other newer models. This time, Maruti will directly challenge the Renault Kwid with a new micro SUV named S-Presso. This car is based on the Future S-Concept model that debuted at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Previously, it was speculated that the launch of the Maruti S-Presso would mark the end of the Alto K10. However, as it turns out, Maruti Suzuki will keep the Alto K10 on sale alongside the S-Presso. Some reports also suggest that the new hatchback will be priced around the same range as the Alto K10. Recently, sources revealed that it is likely that Maruti Suzuki will slot the S-Presso between the Alto K10 and the Celerio. Maruti Alto K10 is currently priced from Rs. 3.65 – 4.44 lakh while the Celerio is ranging from Rs 4.31 to Rs 5.48 lakh. It also means that the upcoming micro SUV is likely to be priced around Rs. 3.90 and 4.50 lakh. Just like the Alto K10 and Celerio, the Maruti S-Presso will be sold via Arena dealership network.

Some spied images of the S-Presso show us more details of the S-Presso. Recently, the base variant of the S-Presso was spotted for the first time with black bumpers, steel wheels with no wheel covers and body-coloured ORVMs. On the other hand, the top-spec variant will come with body-coloured bumper, adjustable ORVMs, body-coloured door handles, antenna on the roof and black-out B-pillar and 5-spoke wheel caps.

With regards to the interior, Maruti S-Presso features black-grey colour scheme. The styling of the interior is expected to be modern and futuristic. The high-end variant of the Maruti S-Presso will get more advanced features like the multifunctional steering wheel, SmartPlay Studio infotainment unit with Apple Carplay and Android Auto Support, remote locking and power window.

Under the hood, Maruti S-Presso will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol motor which is also used on the Alto K10. On the current Alto K10, this engine is able to put out a maximum power of 68 PS and 90 Nm. For the S-Presso, it remains to be seen how much power this engine would provide. On the Alto K10, it will be available with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed manual AMT. See more cars new at IndianAuto.com.
