The high popularity of the latest-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which challenges the likes of Honda Amaze, has put an end to the best-selling reputation of the Alto siblings in India.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto, which had retained the status of the best-selling passenger vehicle of India, throughout the years has been finally dethroned by the third-gen Dzire. The sky-rocketing sales figure of the latest Dzire has not only helped it remain at the top of the monthly sales charts but has even helped it dominate the year sales figures with a total sale of 2,47,815 units until November 2018. On the other hand, the Maruti Alto recorded a sale of 2,31,540 units till November 2018. With this, the Dzire gains the title of the fastest-selling model from Maruti Suzuki, which has been India’s largest carmaker since time immemorial.

With a market share of more than 50%, Maruti Suzuki registers another successful year. The Dzire, Alto, Swift, Baleno and Wagon R have been its largest-selling models.

The main factor leading to the Dzire’s triumph could be pinned on the powertrain-transmission combinations it offers. The car has been made available with both petrol and diesel engine variants in India while the Alto comes with a petrol engine option only. Also, both the engines for the Dzire benefit from an optional AMT. On the other hand, Automated Manual Transmission is available only on the 1.0-litre engine-equipped K10 variant.

The third-gen Maruti Dzire sold 2,47,815 units from January-November 2018.

Also, the latest-gen sedan offers a much more proportional design than its predecessor. Even on the inside, it's roomier and gets top-notch safety kit across all the variants. The other reason for the Dzire’s success could be the company's strategic sales plan. It’s not by accident that Maruti Suzuki dominates the best-selling cars list in the Indian market for so long. Its understanding of the market has been the key to the success of all the generations of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

The powertrain options available on the third-gen Maruti Dzire seem to have played a key role in its success.

The popularity of the Maruti Dzire is expected to remain unfazed even throughout 2019. With 8 out of 10 models in the list of top 10 best-selling cars of India, Maruti Suzuki looks all set to dominate the market in the years to come. The other two vehicles that have managed to make it to the top 10 list are the Hyundai Grand i10 and the i20. With Maruti Suzuki all set to launch the next-gen WagonR this month, it is likely to start the new year on a high note.
