MG ZS EV India Debut on December 5

It has been officially announced by MG that its upcoming electric SUV, the MG ZS, will be disclosed on December 5. Bookings for the vehicle will also be opened next month prior to its official launch in early 2020.

While the specifications for the India-spec model have not been revealed yet, the SUV is anticipated to get a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery which can provide up to 150 HP for an electric motor. The MG ZS EV will be unveiled on December 5.

While the ZS is not expected to be sold in huge volume, MG will maximize the localization level of the vehicle by locally assembling it in India to lower the price as much as possible. The electric SUV started to be produced at the company’s Gujarat-based Halol plant earlier this year. The MG ZS will be specifically developed for India and is anticipated to be priced at about INR 22 lakh (ex-showroom). The ZS EV will have only one direct competitor in the Indian auto market, the Hyundai Kona EV, which is currently available with prices starting from INR 25.3 lakh.

According to what has been earlier announced, the ZS EV will be initially offered in only five cities, i.e. Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR.
