Kerala’s Motor Vehicle Department has released a final warning on all modified vehicle across the state, marking today as the last date to remove all transformations in vehicles. The authority announced that a strict action plan will be conducted from February 1, 2019, to keeps the state transportation much more in check. According to K Padmakumar, the transport commissioner of the state, there are a number of vehicles that have been equipped with colourful pictures and lights plying on the road today, causing a higher possibility of accidents along the streets. In fact, a host of accidents happened in the past as a consequence of the constraints or distraction caused to the road users by these revamped vehicles.

Despite being quite impressive, the modified cars cause the greater driving hazards to other motorists

“I have issued a direction to all the deputy transport commissioners in the state to constitute a team under each Regional Transport Officer. The team will conduct a drive from January 31, the date that we have given as a deadline. Since we have already served a public notification, an individual notice will be served to the owner. If they failed to remove it a show-cause notice will be served and the department will take the necessary steps to cancel the RC. The HID lamps are causing several accidents. The high-intensity light emitted from such headlights blinds the motorists coming from the opposite side, causing mishaps. I have directed all Deputy Transport Commissioners and RTOs to take stringent action”, said Padmakumar

It has been a serious action of the authorities attempted to make the road a safer place

As per the new plan, all modified cars will be cancelled from Registered Certificate Book while the driver’s license will be abolished as well. Besides, from now on, no car owners could alter their vehicles from the originally particulars specified by the automakers, especially for the High Discharge Intensify Lamps. In 2018, the MVD adopted to use the lux meters as a scientific and accurate method to measure the intensifying level of those cars’ headlamps. The devices have been delivered 14 districts of the state while a massive training programme has been conducted for the policemen to master the light-meters. Accurate results are ensured by the devices’ mechanism of generating power convertible to the lighting intensity falling on them.

A thing is, police are planning to conduct the drive against these vehicles at nights with the assistance of the lux-meters. In an attempt to control the future transportation context, it is also ruled out by the Supreme Court that any aftermarket lamps must be installed below the bonnet and fully covered once the car is on the public roads. That means only off-roading utilisation is permitted for these kinds of lamps. People strongly believe that the authorities are on the right move to make the road a safer place and it should be adopted in other states across India.
