The autonomous driving technology is an exciting realm for world-class car brands to venture. BMW is currently testing the 80 prototypes of the new BMW 7-Series that use the hi-tech autonomous driving system.

The unrealistic future of driving without driver is thrilling and intimidating at the same time. However, huge improvement has been made, helping us to get closer to that unbelievable future. BMW has released a new promo video that highlights its advanced autonomous driving system. The unexpected turn on the video has helped the video become viral and approach a wide audience.

The promo video starts in an eerie forest far from human touch with A new BMW 7-Series making its way through the spooky road. Just what we normally see on a horror movie, a dress-in-white lady with long tousled hair appears out of nowhere. Taking a sharp brake, the BMW stops in front of the lady who is supposed to be a ghost. Just like all other ghosts who love jump scare, this spirit also approaches the car and opens the door. But unfortunate for her, there is no poor human inside. And instead of scaring people, it is now scared by human’s technology. Guess the otherworld needs educating their citizens to get used to human technology.

BMW recently introduces the High-Performance D3 platform. D3 stands for Data-driven Development. As the name suggests, the D3 is developed by collecting data of real-driving and other factors concerned. The collected data has formed the basis for autonomous driving technology. 80 prototypes of the new BMW 7-Series that have automated driving function are currently being tested in various countries like the US, China, Germany and Israel. The variety of terrains and climates helps the German company to develop a comprehensive database for self-drive technology. The number of prototypes is expected to go up to 140 cars by the end of this year.

Recently BMW has teamed up with Daimler to develop automated driving technology. BMW is expected to reach the Level 4 self-driving system by 2025 while the upcoming BMW i-NEXT EV is expected to come with Level 3 system.

BMW has been developing and studying the autonomous driving technology for almost two decades and this technology has been used in some models. However, due to the restricted traffic laws in most countries, the self-driving tech becomes muted most the time. Moreover, some accidents on vehicles in autonomous driving has led to the hesitation toward the self-driving function. Hopefully, with the improvement in the self-driving vehicles, it would become more widely applied.
