General Motors

General Motors is a multinational corporation that focuses on manufacturing vehicles. Headquartered in Detroit, General Motors or GM is considered the largest American automobile manufacturer. It is currently the fourth largest car manufacturer in the whole world, ranking after Toyota, Volkswagen and Hyundai.

Within the United State, GM is controlling the operation of Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC. Additionally, GM also owns various car brands located in different countries other than America, for example, Vauxhall (UK), Opel (German), Holden, HSV (Australia), Wuling, Baojun, FAW (China).

GMC

GMC is a predominant car manufacturer from the US. Established in 1911 in Detroit, General Motors Truck Company, or GMC for short, was originally known as Rapid Motor Vehicle Company. The car brand later became a division of General Motors. The car manufacturer’s products are mainly trucks and utility vehicles.

Chevrolet, another car brand that is owned by GM, also offers similar trucks. However, the GMC’s trucks are positioned as more premium than Chevrolet’s products.

Genesis

Car fans will not find “Genesis” a strange name. Genesis is the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai Motor Group. Initially, Genesis was known as a luxury sedan produced by Hyundai since 2004. With the success of this luxury model, Hyundai has decided to launch a standalone sub-brand for luxury vehicles like the Genesis. In 2015, the South Korean carmaker announced that it would name the independent marque after the Genesis sedan. The first model to launch under this new car brand is the G90. After four years, Genesis has added three other new models including G80 and G70 and GV80.

Great Wall

Great Wall Motors is a Chinese car manufacturer that was established in 1984. Named after the famous historical site in China, Great Wall Motors is the biggest Chinese sport utility vehicle and a pick-up truck manufacturer. Starting from 2010, the Chinese carmaker has used different badges for different product lines on its range. Great Wall’s SUVs, passenger cars and pick-up trucks are branded as Haval, Voleex and Wingle, respectively. Previously, Great Wall had planned to enter the Indian market and acquired the manufacturing facility in Talegaon, Maharashtra from General Motors. However, the plan was put on hold after the clash between the Indian and Chinese troop at Galwan Valley.

Geely

Zhejiang Geely Holding Group which is also known as Geely is multinational automotive car corporation with headquarter located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The Chinese car brand retails cars under different brands including Geely Auto, Volvo, Lotus, PROTON and Lynk & Co. Geely also owns London EV Company and Yuan Cheng Auto, which sell commercial vehicles.

Ginetta

Ginetta is a sports car maker originating from Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK, The British car brand was found in 1958 by the Walklett brothers. The car company was later acquired by LNT Automotive in 2005. Some sports cars produced under the Ginetta marque include the G40, G50, G55 and G60.

Gumpert

Gumpert was found by Roland Gumpert, the former Director of Audi, back in 2004. The car brand is based in Altenburg, Germany. In 2008, the carmaker introduced the Apollo which was a huge success. At Top Gear’s Power Lap Board, Apollo broke the record previously held by Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Zonda. The record was later broken by Ferrari FXX, however, the attempt was not recognized since the Ferrari car did not meet the legal standards for streetcars. In 2013, the company filed for bankruptcy. In 2016, Gumpert was acquired by Hong King consortium Ideal Team Venture. Gumpert was renamed to Apollo Automobil GmbH after the acquisition.
