Maruti has plans to introduce the new-gen Gypsy in India by 2023. It is expected to be priced between Rs 10 to 15 lakh.

New Maruti Gypsy aka Suzuki Jimny is among the most awaited SUV launches in India. In foreign markets, the SUV is doing quite well in terms of overall sales. Maruti first showcased the SUV in India early this year at the 2020 Auto Expo. It was able to attract a lot of spectators to its pavilion with the showcase of the mini off-roader. Recent reports suggest that from mid-2021 till 2023, the carmaker will launch five new SUVs in the Indian market and one of them will be the Jimny.

The new new-gen Maruti Gypsy is scheduled to hit the Indian shores by the first half of 2023. This means that enthusiasts around India have to wait for two more years to get their hands on the Maruti’s all-new off-roader. Earlier, it was scheduled to launch in our markets by the end of this year or early next year, but we guess that Maruti has delayed its plans to introduce the new-gen Gypsy due to the ongoing situation. Once launched, it’ll lock horns with the likes of new-gen Mahindra Thar and upcoming Force Gurkha. The upcoming Maruti Gypsy will be powered by the company’s K15B, 1.5-litre petrol engine, which churns out 103bhp of peak power and 138 Nm of twisting force. Transmission duties will be done by a 5-speed MT or 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The same powertrain does duties in Maruti Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross.

The SUV will also be offered with a 4WD system as standard. Internationally, the 3-door version of the SUV is only offered with the 4WD system, while one can expect the India-spec model to be retailed also with a 2WD system. As compared to the 4WD trim, the 2WD variant will be more affordable and fuel-efficient. It may be noted here that factors like fuel economy and affordable pricing tend to attract a lot of Indian buyers. It is likely to be priced between Rs 10 to 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
