The new Kia Rio hatchback was exhibited at the 2018 Auto Expo. It shares the same platform with the Hyundai i20 and is expected to launch in 2020.

Exterior

The 2020 Kia Rio has smooth surfaces and crisp lines over the body. In the front, it is equipped with swooping multi-reflector halogen headlamps and quintessential Tiger nose grille. On the side profile, it offers 15-inch alloy wheels and scooped out doors. It has a large windscreen at the rear. All of these contribute to its premium appearance.

Interior

The new Rio hatchback is planned to have some similar elements to the Hyundai Elite i20 to reduce the cost. For example, Kia will keep the roomy cabin so that both the driver and the co-passengers can feel comfortable when travelling. Plus, the driver's seat can be adjusted in six ways, ensuring the maximum comfort for the driver. Thanks to its new instrument cluster and three-spoke multi-function steering wheels, it has a sporty cabin design. The interior is also packed with quite a few amazing features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, day/night rearview mirror, speed control, backup camera, etc.

Engine and transmission

The new Rio hatchback is likely to have a similar engine with the Hyundai i20, powered by a 1.2-litre petrol or 1.4-litre diesel 4-cylinder engine. Sharing the same engine with the Hyundai i20, the 2020 Kia Rio is likely to be highly fuel-efficient. It is expected to be available with two transmission options: a manual as well as an automatic transmission.

Being a more premium brand than Hyundai, the new 2018 Kia Rio is likely to cost Rs 50,000 more than its Korean cousin Hyundai i20. After being released, the Kia Rio hatchback can compete with Tata premium hatchback, Honda Jazz and Maruti Baleno in India
