The second-generation Mahindra Thar comes across as a comprehensive update over its predecessor and is available in both diesel and petrol fuel variants
Mahindra launched the new-gen Thar in the Indian market last month at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is retailed in three different trim levels namely- AX, AX(O) and LX. The off-roader is doing quite well in terms of overall sales. The automaker has managed to register more than 20,000 bookings, and the new-gen Mahindra Thar has a waiting between 5 to 7 weeks. Recently, the first unit of the SUV, which was auctioned at Rs 1.10 crore was delivered to the customer and on 8th and 9th November, Mahindra delivered 500 units of the new-gen off-roader.
It seems like that the base trim of the SUV is no available for the people to buy. The AX and AX Std trim has been silently removed by the carmaker from the company’s official website, and they employ fixed soft-top roof and side-facing rear seats. Currently, the price of the 2020 Mahindra Thar starts at Rs 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The 2020 Mahindra Thar is based on the ladder-frame chassis and is bigger in dimensions as compared to the previous-gen model. Mechanically, the 2020 Mahindra Thar derives power from a 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine. The former puts out 150bhp of power and 300 Nm of peak torque, while the latter produces 130 PS and 300 Nm of twisting force. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Inside, the 2020 Thar comes loaded with features like a 12-volt accessory socket, remote keyless entry, front power window, cruise control and roof-mounted speakers. It also sports a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with latest connectivity techs, removal doors and a four-wheel-drive option with mechanical locking differential as standard. It is retailed in six unique colour shade options namely- Red Rage, Aqua Marine, Mystic Cooper, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black and Rocky Beige.
