While we’ve been seeing the Mahindra Thar on its running trials for quite some time now, we know that the SUV will boast of some cosmetic and technological changes, along with a set of new BS6-ready engines under the bonnet. The upcoming Mahindra Thar will be built on the new Gen3 chassis that also underpins the Mahindra Scorpio and TUV300 sibling.

The car will be bigger than before and plenty of chunky design cues will be added to the Thar’s exterior package. While the older-gen Thar was designed to become a true-blue off-roader, the all-new SUV will appear more like an everyday vehicle. It will be loaded to the brim with features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay supports, a new instrument cluster with colour MID, electrically-adjustable ORVMs and a reverse parking camera. The most highlighting change on the interior of the Thar will be the presence of forward-facing rear seats that replace the outgoing bench ones.

Powering the Mahindra Thar will be multiple engine-transmission combinations including a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine making 187 BHP of power and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel motor outputting 140 BHP of power output, of course, all are BSVI-compliant. This time around, the all-new Thar will be available with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox along with an optional automatic transmission. Since the Mahindra Thar’s USP has always been the off-road capabilities it has to offer, the all-new Thar will also come with a Mechanical Locking Differential together with 4x4 Low & High function.
