Nissan to hire 1,500 personnel in India in R&D

The chairman of Nissan in Africa, Middle East and India market, Paynar Kargar has recently stated that the company will hire 1,000 personnel for R&D department this year and another 500 for the newly set up digital hub.

Nissan, one of the biggest Japanese auto has recently announced to a plan regard of hiring 1,500 people from India with the aims to boost the R&D department and global digital hub. Meanwhile, the automaker also schedules to go for "voluntary separation" at its Chennai manufacturing unit.

Nissan has pumped into the Indian market around ₹6,100 crore since 2009. The automaker had employed 7,000 people for the R&D centre near Chennai for the sake of doing development work for vehicles in India as well as being responsible for engineering activities for its alliance with Renault. It gears up investing more for its expansion at the Chennai plant, in which merely 40 per cent utilised until now. The plant has claimed to have an annual production capacity of 4.8 lakh units.

The chairman of Nissan in Africa, Middle East and India market, Paynar Kargar said stated that

“Our aim is to ensure operations in India are best in class and that India becomes an even more significant global hub for Nissan and the alliance in manufacturing, engineering and R&D.”

Regard of hiring more personnel, he added

 “We are going to invest in this area in India further. We will hire 1,000 for R&D this year and another 500 for the newly set up digital hub. We will grow and our workforce will shift towards highly skilled jobs to lead the technological changes coming to the auto industry in India. We are also going to offer a voluntary departure for excess people in areas where we don’t require.” 

The Japanese automaker sets the goal to turn its Indian operations into one of the best in class. Additionally, India market is expected to be an even more significant global hub for Nissan and the alliance in manufacturing, R&D department and engineering.
