Production-Spec Mahindra Thar Spied Up Close, Pictures Reveal A Lot Of Details

Mahindra has recently confirmed that the new-gen Thar will be unveiled on the Independence Day this year. It comes as a great surprise for the Thar fans since spy shots of the SUV have created a lot of buzz for the SUV. However, the trail of spy shots has not stopped yet, as another set of pictures have surfaced over the internet. These pictures come from Mr. Deepak P. Thankfully, these images are pretty clear and shed a lot of details of the vehicle. It can be seen that front facet of the Thar now gets contemporary a look with the use of the right amount of curves and fillets. The radiator grille, bumper, bonnet, and the windshield, have now adhered to the new-age design cues.

Moving over to the sides, the Thar can be seen shod with a set of nice-looking five-spoke alloy wheels that are shod with chunky AT-spec rubber from Ceat. The sheet metal is also free from indents now, and the ORVMs can be seen with ‘Thar’ inscribed on them. On the rear facet, the new-gen Thar continues to get the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The tail lamps now feature a revised design, and they too get the ‘Thar’ inscription like the ORVMs. A beefy scuff plate can be seen beneath the spare wheel. This time around, the tailgate of the Thar will open in 2 steps as the windscreen will be a separate unit from the tailgate and will open upwards.

Like the exterior, the interior of the new-gen Thar has evolved as well. In the spy shots, the interior of the new-gen Thar looks posher than that of the older model. It now gets a modern-design for the dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system and switches for climate control in place. The AC vents get carbon fibre treatment, which accentuates the appeal of the cabin. Also, a multi-function steering wheel, power window switches, manual lever for the transfer case, and forward-facing rear seat can be seen inside the cabin. A closer look reveals that the roof panels are removable just like the car it takes its inspiration from.

The new-gen Thar is expected to come with 2 engine options – 2.0L petrol and 2.2L diesel. The former will be 4-cylinder turbocharged motor from mStallion family of engines. It is expected to put out a peak power output in the range of 150 PS. However, this engine can develop a rated output of 190 PS/380 Nm. The oil burner, however, will be the same 2.2L mHawk unit that also does duties on the Scorpio. It puts out a peak power output of 140 PS and 320 Nm of max torque. Both of these engines will be offered with 2 gearbox options – 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT. Also, the Thar is likely to come equipped with a 4X4 transfer case as standard across the range.
