The upcoming two years will be a very important time for the Tata with so many new cars to come. From Nexon JTP, Tiago and Tigor EV, to Harrier, there are various new models that constitute Tata’s 2-year plan.

In recent years, Tata has constantly and stably developed and improved their status in the automobile business. It is among the rare carmakers that could show positive growth rates in 2018 despite the downward trend of the industry with dominant names found struggling. It is expected that in the years to come, Tata will expand their brand toward the top spots in the market.

Recently, Tata has launched the JTP version of its popular hatchback and sedan: Tiago and Tigor. And Tata has prepared for its shining time with various models to launch in the next two years, from SUV to EV hatchback. We will dig into the upcoming models from Tata and see how the car brand will develop in the future.

1. Tata Tiago EV, Tigor EV

Two of the most important productions for the Tata in the future are the Tiago EV and Tigor EV. Electrical vehicles are expected to thrive soon, especially when the government is opening their arms to the EV segment. Many carmakers are all set to develop and introduce their own EV for the India market, like Maruti, Honda and Mahindra and Tata Motor is not an exception. It will be the first time the India automaker penetrate into the segment of EV.

At the end of 2018, Tata’s first EV, as well as the EV version of the existing Tiago, will be launched. The concept of this car was showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 earlier this year. Tiago EV sports the powertrain developed by Electra EV. The electric motor is likely to make around 44bhp. Cosmetically, the EV is going to inherit mostly every element from its hatchback sibling.

The sedan Tigor EV will go on sale at the same time with the hatchback Tiago EV. On the engine front, Tigor EV will be powered by the same unit from the Tiago. And it will come up against Mahindra e-Verito.

As far as we know, Tata Harrier will get power from a 2.0-litre engine that is found in the Jeep Compass. It is underpinned by Land Rover’s D8 platform. The transmission option will include both manual and automatic, these units are brought from Hyundai.

The Nexon JTP will draw power from the reworked 1.2-litre petrol version of the Nexon. The tuned engine will outdo the older version. From what we see from the Tiago and Tigor JTP, it is expected that the Nexon JTP will get 30bhp more in term of power, adding up to around 140bhp. To flatter the performance of the Nexon JTP, minor twists for the suspension system are predictable. In terms of the look, exterior updates will transform the Nexon for more sporty and racy appearance.

6. Tata Hornbill Micro SUV

The latest car to arrive in Tata’s current plan is the Hornbill Micro SUV. This car was teased once at the Auto Expo 2018. There is a still a good two-year waiting period ahead for this micro SUV, therefore, there are not so many things to tell about this car, except for the Alpha platform that will underpin both the 45X and the Hornbill.

As it will come in 2020, around the time of new BSVI emission norm’s adaption, it will surely have to be obedient with the new norms.
