Toyota To Target C- And B-segment With Their New Hybrid and Plug-in Vehicles

According to a report, Toyota will introduce a host of new hybrid and plug-in vehicles. These new models will focus on the small and medium cars segment.

In the future, Toyota vehicles will be strongly electrified. In India specifically, the manufacturers are all set to develop new plug-in and hybrid range. It is a part of a bigger scheme of CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency) which targets at leveraging the fuel economy of the recent line-up by 30per cent. Toyota has pinpointed 2022 as the year that they will fire up the plan, according to N Raja, TKM’s Deputy Managing Director.

Under the CAFÉ program, manufacturers are required to lower their vehicles emission level to 113 g/km, meaning they have to shift to greener energy or adopt hybrid and electric engines. Toyota, as revealed by Raja, will venture the C and B segment with their new range of hybrids and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The strategic partnership between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki is expected to significantly benefit both sides, especially for Toyota, the lesser popular brand of the two in India. Maruti could comfortably inherit Toyota’s expertise in hybrid and electric spectrum while Toyota could study and apply the tried-and-succeeded formula for creating well-selling vehicles. Moreover, Toyota could make use of Maruti’s Gujarat-based battery manufacturing facility to assemble their electric vehicles.

In the meanwhile, Toyota recently launched the new-gen Camry with a hybrid system. Also, the India-bound Corolla could also receive a new hybrid system in the near future. Along with these hybrid vehicles, Toyota will concentrate on rework the Maruti Baleno and Vitara Brezza for in India market.
