Mahindra Thar was launched last year in the country, and the Indian audience welcomed it with a warm response. The off-roader currently boasts of a super-long waiting period, which extends over 10 months for select variants and colour options. We recently reported that the diesel variant of the Thar with the Napoli black paint scheme has the longest waiting period of all the configurations. This time around, we came across a social media post, which reveals that some dealers are charging a premium of around Rs. 3.00 lakh if a consumer wants his/her Thar in the Napoli Black paint scheme and is wishing to avoid the long waiting period.
The new-gen Mahindra Thar is available in a total of six colour options - Galaxy Grey, Red Rage, Aquamarine, Mystic Copper, Rocky Beige, and Napoli Black. Moreover, the white paint scheme is likely to be introduced soon as the car has been spotted multiple times on test with the new paint scheme. Currently, the Thar is available in a total of 2 trim options – AX Option and LX. Also, there are two roof options on offer – convertible soft top and fixed hard top.
With a long list of features, the 2020 Mahindra Thar is an evolution over its predecessor. It now comes equipped with power windows, power-adjustable & power-foldable ORVMs, centre locking, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a 7-inch infotainment unit. The Thar has also scored a 4-star crash test rating at Global NCAP’s testbed. It gets a slew of features onboard. The list includes ABS with EBD, dual-front airbags, ESP, TPMS, traction control, roll-over mitigation, hill-descent control and more.
For the powertrain duties, one can opt between two engine options – 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel. The former is capable of putting out 150 Bhp and 320 Nm, whereas the latter develops a peak power output of 130 Bhp and max torque of 300 Nm. Transmission options on the new-gen Thar include a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT. Moreover, it comes standard with the 4X4 drivetrain along with a low-range transfer case and mechanically-locking rear differential.
