Back in a century

Before turning into a company that specializes in luxury SUVs, sports cars and sedans, in 1922, Jaguar started as just a private company located in Blackpool, England. At that time, the company was named Swallow Sidecar Company, but the name hadn’t lasted for so long as the company founders renamed it S. S. Cars Limited. In 1935, the first Jaguar, the SS Jaguar 100, was produced. To promote the name Jaguar, the company leaders once again changed its name to Jaguar Cars Limited. They became well-known after a few years as they won the 1951 and 1953 Le Mans 24-Hour Race. Remarkably, they hit the sports car market quite well with models such as the Jaguar E-TYPE and the Jaguar XK120, which elevated their reputation.

Once again in 1968, the company decided to join Letland Motors because of financial difficulties and became British Leyland, which was nationalized in 1975. In 1989, after several years of switching from here to there, Jaguar again became private thanks to Margaret Thatcher. Until 1999-2000, the company together with Lincoln, Land Rover, Aston Martin, and Volvo became parts of the Premier Automotive Group of Ford. Not so long after that, in 2008, Ford sold both Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors. And until 2013, Tata Motors merged them into a company named Jaguar Land Rover Limited.
