Take a look at this used 2010 Hyundai i10 that is on sale for Rs. 42.64 lakh. Yes! You read it right, it costs higher than a Toyota Fortuner.
Buying a car in India is not an easy affair, but the cars are much affordable here than in a lot of other countries. The per capita income of India for FY19 was recorded at Rs. 94,954. However, the cheapest car in India – Datsun RediGo, would set you back by Rs. 2.88 lakh (excluding tax). But, we recently came to know that buying a car in Cuba is at least four times more expensive than buying one in India. While digging a little deeper in the car culture of Cuba and its roots, we came across a used 2010 Hyundai i10 that is on sale for CUC 58,000. If converted to INR, this figure comes up to Rs. 42.64 lakh. This is the first-gen Hyundai i10 that was launched in the Indian market back in 2007 for a starting price of Rs. 4.23 lakh.
It was offered with 1.1L petrol and 1.2L petrol engine options. It is the latter that powers this used 2010 example, and it comes mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox. We came across this used Hyundai i10 via the car listing of Autocubana. Interestingly, the owner of this Hyundai i10 has painted the bonnet, tailgate, and roof of this example in a shade of black, while the other parts continue to remain in the factory-spec white paint scheme.
In the Indian market, the South-Korean carmaker now sells the second and third-gen iteration of the i10. While the second-gen model is sold as Grand i10, the third-gen of the car comes with ‘Nios’ suffix. The Grand i10 is offered with a 1.2L petrol engine only, which puts out a rated power output of 83 PS and max torque of 113 Nm, and it comes mated to a 5-speed MT only.
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, on the other hand, is offered with three engine options – 83 PS 1.2L petrol, 75 PS 1.2L diesel, and 100 PS 1.0L turbo-petrol. The transmission options on the Grand i10 Nios include a 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. Talking of the prices, the Grand i10 Nios starts at Rs. 5.12 lakh and goes up to Rs. 8.35 lakh. The Grand i10, on the other hand, starts at Rs. 5.91 lakh and tops out at Rs. 5.99 lakh.
