Mahindra XUV 500 is due for an all-new generation sometime soon. But today we have a current-gen XUV 500 with a roof tent modification which gives us serious travel goals.

Mahindra XUV 500 marked a turning point for the Indian UV manufacturer when it launched back in 2011. Mahindra is famous for its various iterations based on the jeep and in the 2000s, the Bolero and the Scorpio SUVs. The XUV 500 is the first vehicle from Mahindra to be built with a monocoque chassis which greatly improves its on-road dynamics and ride quality. Also, the XUV 500 is a front-wheel-drive SUV only unless you put a special order for the 4x4 version. It has been a popular SUV since its launch, always posting strong sales numbers for Mahindra. The mid-size SUV segment has become crowded recently though and currently, the XUV 500 has tougher competition with the likes of the Tata Harrier and MG Hector Plus joining the segment. But today we have got this perfect XUV 500 mod for the people who love travelling.

In the video that has been uploaded by Explore The Unseen 2.0 on YouTube, we see a Mahindra XUV 500 getting a roof tent fitted on the vehicle. Regular visitors of IndianAuto will recognize this XUV 500 as we had just done a story on it and a Tata Harrier giving the rest of us unhealthy amounts of the want to travel. Today we are watching how the roof installation process of the XUV 500 took place. The roof rails are detached first, which reveals that Mahindra already gives you access to four screw points each side for fitting roof rails or tents which means no extra modification is needed. The second step is bolting on the crossbars to the said screw points and it is where the tent will sit on to ensure better weight distribution plus no damage to the roof. The roof tent comes now and it first slides in under the crossbars and held in place with clamp nuts. After the tent is in place it will be locked and tightened further with lock nuts and bigger screw nuts to keep the fit snug. The last step is to fit in the roof rails back again, which makes the whole modification look factory done. Overall, it can be a worthy addition to your SUV if you love travelling in to the unknown.
