Since the Maruti Vitara Brezza is now turning old, the carmaker is developing a new Baleno-based compact-SUV for the Indian market. Here's how it will look like.

Recent reports have confirmed that India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch a Baleno-based compact-SUV in the market. Internally, it is codenamed as YTB and is a part of the SUVs that Maruti is planning to launch in the coming years. As with the launch of newer products, the dwindling sales of Vitara Brezza are more of a concern now for the carmaker. Thus, the brand is developing a Baleno-based compact-SUV. But how it will look like? Well, reports claim that it would sport a coupe-like roofline. However, our in-house rendering specialist has created a life-like digital render of the upcoming Maruti Baleno-based compact-SUV. Take a look at it here.

In the above image, it can be seen that the Baleno-based compact-SUV looks quite similar to the Baleno itself. However, the similarity remains to the headlamps and the radiator grille only. It sits a lot higher off the ground than the Baleno and gets a new bumper at the front along with a skid plate. Moreover, the roofline has been altered a bit to increase the headroom on the inside. To boast of that SUV-ish appeal, it gets side cladding as well. On the rear, a spoiler has been fixed on the tailgate. Overall, this Baleno-based compact-SUV looks appealing in this rendering and has enough elements to boast of a crossover-ish look. Like the Baleno, it will be underpinned by the lightweight Heartect platform, which is also used on a lot of other Maruti cars.

Talking of the engine specifications, the Baleno-based crossover is likely to come with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated, petrol motor that does duties on Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga and more. It is capable of putting out a rated power output of 105 PS and max torque of 138 Nm. The gearbox options will include a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT. Also, it is expected to be retailed via Maruti’s Nexa range of outlets. With an expected starting price of around Rs. 7.00 lakh, it will rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, and upcoming Renault Kiger.
