In a recent TVC, Tata Altroz took a funny jab at all of its competitors currently being sold in the Indian car market.

Tata Altroz is not only the safest car in its segment, it is one of the safest cars in India. Launched earlier this year, the Altroz is the Tata’s first-ever premium hatchback. Sadly, the car’s launch was followed by the pandemic outbreak and nationwide lockdown, which affected car sales heavily. Now, that the lockdown is slowly lifting, Tata hopes to increase sales for its car.

On Father’s day, Tata Motors released a new TVC for the Altroz. In the video, we see some extremely smart wordplay, which takes some subtle digs at the competition.  The first part of the message says “In the game of design, do you wanna play bal? eNo one got time for that”. It should be plenty clear that the line was aimed towards a certain Maruti Suzuki hatchback. The second message states “In the test of safety, while you eye 20/20, I’ll be iConic”. Surely, the target for this was a Hyundai car. The third part of the message goes like this, “On the streets, you’re just a fancy name, coz they be Glanzing at me”. Any guesses which Toyota is being referred to in these lines?

The video then continues on to list the various accolades of the Tata Altroz, two of which are by two major Indian publications (Autocar India and Auto Premier League by CarDekho) while one, the most significant one which gets the centre stage, is its Global NCAP safety rating. Tata prides itself on making its cars safe for Indian roads, and this surely reflects in the advertisement as well.

The Altroz has two engine options on offer – a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. The petrol motor is a 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine, capable of generating 85 PS and 113 Nm. The diesel engine is an inline-4, turbocharged mill, with 90 PS and 200 Nm. It comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission only. Its competition includes the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza, and the upcoming Honda Jazz facelift. That last one wasn’t mentioned in the video, probably because it’s been temporarily discontinued in our market at the moment.
