The latest spy image of the Maruti Baleno-rivalling Tata 45X (X451) reveals important details of the interior, the launch is slated for late 2019 with prices expected to start from Rs 5.5 lakh

To make its presence in 90% of the country's popular segments, Tata Motors is gearing up for two big launches in 2019: the Harrier SUV and the 45X hatchback. We have seen how the H5X concept model has developed into the brilliant Harrier SUV; likewise, we can expect to see the Tata 45X bloom into a handsome production model. Expected to make a large impact in the Indian auto market, the X451 has been spotted testing in India on several occasions. The Impact Design 2.0 philosophy, which will debut on the Tata Harrier, will also be seen on the production-spec 45X. Furthermore, the new Maruti Baleno-rival will become the first vehicle to be underpinned by the flexible Alpha platform that will be used on future products by Tata measuring up to 4.3 meters in length.

While the spy images of the car's exterior have revealed a wide range of details, the latest image reveals a fair bit about the interior. Tata had said that the interior of the car would be available in different colour combinations, but the spy image shows an all-black colour scheme along with piano black trim.

Another notable bit about the interior of the Tata 45x is its semi-digital instrument cluster that looks a bit like that of the Tata Harrier. It comprises an analogue speedometer, while all other information is shown on the large 7-inch central display. Moreover, the Tata 45X will also sport a floating touchscreen infotainment system similar to the one offered in the Tata Nexon. The unit will support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as Bluetooth connectivity. Like the Tata Nexon, an audio setup with eight speakers will also be available in the Tata 45X hatchback. Also, the car will come with a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel with chrome trim. Other features that the spy images reveal include -

  • Start/stop push button

  • Steering mounted controls

  • 12 V socket

For your information, the production model of the hatchback will take a lot of exterior styling cues from the concept model. To be more specific, it will have a sharper design than current Tata products. Some of the note-worthy exterior features include

  • Large headlights which stick out from the grille

  • Steep-raked C pillar

  • Pillar-mounted rear door handles

In terms of specifications, the Tata 45X is expected to borrow the engines from the Nexon, which means it will receive power from a 1.2 L turbocharged petrol motor and a 1.5 L turbocharged diesel unit. While the former can produce 110 PS and 170 Nm, the latter can deliver 110 PS and 260 Nm. The transmission duties will be undertaken by a six-speed MT gearbox and a six-speed AMT unit. Like other new Tata products, The Tata 45X will also be available with various driving modes. A JTP variant with an impressive performance is also expected to be under development.

Rumoured to be called the Aquilla once launched in India, the Tata 45X will rival vehicles like the Hyundai Elite i20, the Honda Jazz, the Volkswagen Polo and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. While the Tata Harrier will go on sale in the country from January 23, 2019, the 45X hatchback will likely launch in India by mid-2019.
