We are here to work on a sheer comparison between the old and new Ford Ecosport. Changes that have been made to the SUV are not just limited to the cosmetic area solely.

An urban sub-compact SUV with respectable off-roading capabilities is what arises on our minds as far as the Ford Ecosport is concerned. When the first Ecosport finds the way to India, it has so far created a huge wave of interests in the small SUV and crossover segment in the country. However, consistent developments in the automotive market force the “American conqueror” to take a smart move in order to keep pace with the current trends. That’s the courtesy of the current-generation Ford Ecosport in India today.

Launched in 2013, the baby city SUV Ford Ecosport aggregates an immense number of fan-following thanks to its chic stylishness, aggressive pricing and road-tearing performance. Over the ages, the Ford Ecosport receives some upgrades and revisions so as to keep other contenders at bay. The latest generation of Ecosport, in the recent launch, shows off a sportier style and modern techs that give us some certain clues to get a deep insight into the fight with the outgoing variants. Our Ford Ecosport old vs new comparison will spot the changes side-by-side between two models in regards to the exterior, interior, specifications and prices.

Old Vs New Ford Ecosport- Exterior

In a world that radical cosmetic design is leading almost every arena of fondness, Ford has no option without making a move. When it comes to styling, it is the front facade that we can figure out the most preeminent batch of changes. The “Blue Oval” has made some major tweaks on the front bumper with a refreshed horizontal grille housing Ford's badge, sharper projector headlamps with LED DRLs and fog lamps together with a hump on the hood spreading in width toward the windshield. The bonnet-mounted windshield washers have been crafted more neatly compared to the former version. That said, all these updates give the new Ford Ecosport a tougher and more aggressive exterior stance than ever before.

The 2017 Ford Ecosport shows up with a bolder stance compared to the 2016 generation

There is not much to say in the Ecosport’s side and rear profile apart from a set of new wheel arches. Like the Platinum Edition of the outgoing model, the wheels now measures up to 17-inch in diameter. Besides, a spare wheel mounted at the back also wears a different cover whereas the rear bumper receives some imperceptible tweaks. The US-spec Ford Ecosport comes with no tailgate-mounted spare wheel; instead, it comes replaced with a number plate. However, this is not the case for the Indian auto space.

Old Vs New Ford Ecosport- Interior

In the new version, what comes to your visual eyes as soon as the door opens is the LED backlit scuff plates illuminated with Ecosport branding. Another thing is, the wholly refreshed layout of dashboard now catches any layman’s eyes with bigger infotainment system standing at the top of the central AC vents. The circular temperature control this time gets dumped to make room for the similar automatic aircon control fascia found on the Ford Figo sibling. The younger baby SUV now delivers greater on-the-go confidence than the older counterpart on account of many more new advanced functions on the steering and more buttons to push. Vividly, the carmaker has brought in fresh blood to the updated version by a new instrument cluster with a MID unit sitting well between the speedometer and tachometer. Seating capacity and space of the currently-available Ford Ecosport, as a result of the intact dimensions, remains untouched with the ability to carry five people.

A multi-functional cabin has been equipped in the new version

In addition to the changes in terms of styles and design, the facelifted Ecosport comes up with a slew of feature refinements that, at the same time, help depreciate the pressure from its direct adversaries. Of the most essential changes on the fresh release, the new Ford’s SYNC3 infotainment system should be highly noticed. This is also the interior feature that almost all enthusiasts of Ford cars are waiting for. The system is compatible with voice recognition, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and navigation supports. Well, that’s not all folks, the higher trims even offer a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the lower variants enable a smaller 6.5-inch system display. Such these things are all missed out in the previous generation.

Ford has taken a due course of time to ready the new Ecosport’s safety package. Standard safety features e.g dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera, rear defogger, reverse parking sensors, Day/Night IRVM, etc. taken from the outgoing models are still, proudly available in the newcomer. Moreover, cruise control with adjustable speed limiter, locking wheel nut for alloys or ISOFIX child seat mounts and more are some to cutthroat its contenders and even its own year-ago model.

Old Vs New Ford Ecosport- Dimensions

Concerning the dimensions, you can easily spot no differences between the facelift and pre-facelift version of Ford Ecosport. The new variant inherits the same proportions from its predecessors as regarding length, width, height and wheelbase. As stated before, it leads to the similar seating capacity to carry five occupants but surprisingly allows extended cargo storage of around 352L to 1178L once the rear seats all folded down, marking an increase by 6 litres when compared to the older-gen model.

Old Vs New Ford Ecosport- Specifications

As a sports utility vehicle, the most highlighted change of the new Ecosport over the older one lies under the hood. The refreshed Ecosport has welcomed a new 1.5-litre three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated Dragon petrol engine releasing 121.3 bhp of max power and 150 Nm of peak torque. The engine which claims a fuel economy of 14.8 to 17 km/l comes to put an end to the outgoing 123 bhp, 1.0-litre EcoBoost gasoline burner which obtained a lukewarm sale performance in the Indian market. The 1.5-litre TDI oil burner still appears in both the new Ford Ecosport.

Old Vs New Ford Ecosport- Pricing Changes

In order to regain the lost ground in the segment of sub-compact SUVs in India, Ford has to price the new Ecosport in a route giving out more value for the money when compared to the predecessors as well as other competitors. Brimming with more updated features, the current Ford Ecosport hovers in the pricing range of around Rs 7-10 Lakh. It gets a price starting from Rs 7.31 Lakh which plainly grows by Rs 10,000 than the former version- a totally attractive price for such many cosmetic changes, new engine and upmarket feature packages.
