1 Maruti Baleno Sold Every 2 Minutes Since Launch

Maruti Baleno has become the faster hatchback in India to reach the 8 lakh cumulative sales mark in less than five years. With this, it has comprehensively outsold the likes of Hyundai Elite i20.

Maruti Baleno first entered the Indian market in October 2015. The premium hatchback has become a key product in Maruti’s Indian line-up. It has always topped on the sales chart of the segment, thereby outclassing the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and VW Polo.

Maruti Baleno is the best-selling model in the premium hatchback space

Maruti Baleno is retailed via Maruti’s Nexa network of 377 showrooms across 200 cities in India. The model has contributed greatly to Nexa’s impressive sales figures for years. In the premium hatchback space, Maruti Baleno is challenging the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.

Besides the domestic market, the Baleno is exported and sold in other countries as well. The best-selling hatchback is currently on sale in Australia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In less than 5 years after launch in India, the Baleno has crossed the 8 lakh sales milestone. It means that every 2 minutes in the last five year, Maruti sold 2 units of the Baleno. Maruti also announced that the Baleno is the fastest hatchback to attain this achievement in the country.

The hatchback is built on the light-weight fifth-gen Heartect platform which is also used on other current Maruti car models. Positioned as a premium hatchback, the Maruti Baleno is well-equipped with upmarket features. The interior of the Baleno is fitted with some goodies like the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, and control-mounted steering wheels.

Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki is powered by a 1.2-litre aspirated petrol engine. This engine is capable of making a maximum power of 83 Bhp and a top torque of 113 Nm. The naturally aspirated engine is mated to either a 5-speed MT or CVT gearbox. There is also a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine (89 Bhp/113 Nm). The Indo-Japanese car manufacturer also applies SHVS technology for the Dualjet unit, which improves the fuel efficiency to 23.87 km/l. This engine is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.

Maruti Baleno is currently available in four trims, Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The price range of the Baleno ranges from Rs 5.63 lakh to Rs 8.96 lakh.
