Hyundai HB20 for Brazil is what Elite-i20 is for India. Built on very similar architecture as the i20’s, HB20 was launched in Brazil in 2012, for the first time. The midsize hatchback with its efficient engine and clever packaging shared the same success story as that of the i20’s. Growing up as one of the best selling cars in the Brazilian market, it was long due for an update. After some rigorous road testing, Hyundai has now launched the new generation of HB20 in Brazil and will soon follow the route to other countries as well.

In terms of dimensions, the hatchback has now gained 20mm extra in its length and breadth. With these increments, it now measures 3940 mm in length and 1700 mm in width. However, it is as tall as the last generation itself, with 1470mm of height. To increase the space offered on the inside, the wheelbase is now 2530mm long, which is a 30mm increase over the last-gen HB20. New dimensions have carved out some extra legroom and knee room for occupants, but the boots space is still the same with a capacity of 300mm.

The HB20X crossover shares similar dimensions to the hatchback, but is taller at 1540mm, thanks to the raised suspension setup. This has indeed imparted a massive 205mm of ground clearance to the crossover. The sedan is now longer by 30mm and measures at 4260mm in length. While all other dimensions are identical to the hatchback, the extra length has carved out an extra boot space of 25 liters, bringing the total volume to 475 liters.

These HB20 triplets share similar power plants across the range. There are 3 different engine options to choose from. A naturally aspirated 80hp/100NM 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine, a 120hp/172nm 3cylinder turbocharged engine, and a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder motor will be the part of powertrain options. A set of manual and automatic gearbox will be the part of drivetrain options to choose from.
