Mahindra & Mahindra has finally taken the wrap off the new 2020 Mahindra Thar. The homegrown carmaker has done a decent job on renewing the iconic off-road vehicle. The new Thar gets an attractive exterior appearance as well as an enhanced interior with a host of new features. Let’s have a close look at the new 2020 Mahindra Thar in a walkaround video we have below-
Mahindra Thar Walk-around Video
In this walk-around video, in the beginning, we get a look at the refreshed front end of the vehicle. The old bumper has been replaced with a new dual-tone unit integrated with round fog lights at the terminal ends. There are also new round halogen headlights with indictors and LED DRLs. Some slight creases are added to the front bonnet, thereby increasing the appeal of the exterior design. However, the new front grille on the Mahindra Thar is not to everyone’s liking. It still comprises of traditional vertical slats, however, the new grille is now much smaller.
In the side profile, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with a set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/65 Ceat rubber. The dominant wheel arches with black cladding are among the highlights of the side design. Other notable features of the side profile include sidesteps and door-mounted power adjustable ORVMs.

Coming to the rear end, we see a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, creating a classic SUV look for the Thar. In addition, there are a couple of new changes for the rear end, such as LED taillights, dual-tone rear bumper and split tailgate. The tailgate is divided into two parts. While the lowered part is opened sideways, the upper glass part is lifted upwards. 2020 Mahindra Thar is available in three versions, hard-top, soft-top and convertible.
Mahindra Thar 2020 in Action - TVC
The interior of the 2020 Mahindra Thar sports an all-black colour theme. The best part about the new interior is that it comes with a host of new equipment. Sitting at the centre of the new dashboard is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay. There is also a TFT multi-information display flanked by speedometer and tachometer. Other interior features of the new-gen Mahindra Thar are a multi-function steering wheel, height-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system as well as tyre direction monitoring. In terms of safety features, Mahindra Thar gets dual front airbags, ABS, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, rear parking sensors, hill hold assist and hill descent control.
As for the powertrains, the new Mahindra Thar will be available with two choices of engines, a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. While the former churns out 150 hp and 320 Nm, the latter makes 130 hp and 320 Nm. These engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit. Prices of the new Thar have not been revealed yet. However, we will soon get the price details after the 2020 Mahindra Thar is launched on October 2. Force Gurkha will be the only rival of the new Mahindra Thar in our market.
