The next generation Mahindra XUV500 is set to launch next year and will join the new-gen Scorpio and Thar in the company's updated product portfolio
Thanks to the relaxation of the lockdown, carmakers have started testing their upcoming vehicles on the roads more frequently to prepare for their launches. Recently, the much-awaited next-gen Mahindra XUV500 has been spotted testing again on the roads near Chennai as lockdown eased.
According to the spy video by Rushlane, the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 looks bolder and more matured compared to the vehicles we saw earlier. However, the test mule was still heavily concealed under heavy camouflage as before. The latest spy shots of new-gen Mahindra XUV500 signifies the production-spec body panels of the car while the taillights look like a far cry from what Mahindra will bring in the production-ready model.
In late last year, the second-generation Mahindra XUV500 was expected to be introduced in 2020. However, closer to the Auto Expo 2020, it turned out that scenario would not occur as Mahindra will not launch the new-gen XUV500 in India this year. The home-grown carmaker did bring in a BSVI-compliant version of the current XUV500 instead.
As we’ve reported earlier, the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will be based on the all-new monocoque architecture and will source the power from a new 2.0-litre diesel motor option. This mill is said to churn out more power than the current 2.2-litre diesel burner which is tuned to develop 155 horsepower. The new-gen XUV500 will be available with both manual and automatic transmission. Some range-topping trims will even get an AWD system.
Once launched, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will be a heavily-equipped offering. We do expect the upcoming SUV to feature a new interior that might boast of some segment-leading gadgets and features on tap. The new-gen Mahindra XUV500 will see the aggressive rivalries from the MG Hector, upcoming Tata Gravitas or the 7-seater version of Hyundai Creta.
