5-door Suzuki Jimny for India Could Be a Hoax

Maruti showcased the international-spec Suzuki Jimny Sierra at the 2020 Auto Expo, and rumours abound that the carmaker will commence the production of the India-spec model in the coming months. In fact, speculation is rife that the carmaker shall develop a 5-door version of the SUV exclusively for our market. 

However, recently, it has been reported that the country's largest-selling carmaker is still undecided about launching the mini-SUV. Putting two and two together, it can be said that the entire concept of the 5-door version being under development could be nothing more than a haox. Don't get us wrong though, for we really wish to have the 4th-gen Jimny available here, but, we just can't overlook that all the reports of a 5-door version being on the anvil seem like calculated guesswork.

Nevertheless, production of the regular 3-door version of the Jimny will shortly commence at Suzuki Motor Corporations’s production facility in Gujrat. With this, India will become an export hub for the SUV. As Mr Sashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has clearly stated, the automaker is not sure about launching the mini off-roader in India, which means even the chances of the 3-door Jimny Sierra making it to our market are pretty slim.

It may be noted here that the Suzuki Jimny received an amazing response from the spectators at the Auto Expo 2020. In line with this, the automaker was expected to introduce a 5-door version of the SUV in our market as Jimny’s compact dimensions and three-door layout could prove to be quite irrelevant to our market. 

The Suzuki Jimny Sierra is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B four-pot petrol mill that produces 103bhp of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic unit. The motor comes mated to Suzuki’s advance 4X4 system. The Jimny Sierra comes loaded with features like touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, steering-mounted controls, automatic headlamps, keyless entry and so on. In terms of safety, it features dual airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, brake assist and electronic stability program.
