In its BSVI-compliant avatar, the new Renault Kwid will command a tad higher price tag as compared to the BSIV models.

Renault India had launched the 2019 Renault Kwid (facelift) just a few weeks back, and the car is already set to recieve a major update. The facelifted model had come up with a slew of changes, aimed at keeping the hatchback fresh on the inside and outside. Now, the French carmaker is gearing up to provide a BS6 compliant engine in the Kwid. A partially-camouflaged test mule of what could be the BSVI-compliant Kwid version has been spotted recently.

The camouflaged test mule spotted in broad daylight in the above video seems to be the top-spec 'Climber' variant, which is available with a 1.0-litre engine only. The engine is capable of making 68 PS of max power and 91 Nm of peak torque in the BSIV form. There are two transmission options on offer; a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. The ARAI-certified fuel mileage figure of the current BS4-compliant Kwid is at 21.7 km per litres for the manual variant and 22.5 km per litres for the AMT models. With the upgrade to the BSVI-compliance, the power and torque output figures are expected to be unchanged while the fuel efficiency of the car might reduce by 5-10%.

The 2020 Renault Kwid has been spied in India for the first time ahead of its official launch next year.

Apart from the BSVI compliant 1.0-litre gasoline burner, the Kwid will come with a BSVI spec 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual unit. At present, this engine powers the base variants of the Kwid. It is tuned for 54 PS of max power and 72 Nm of peak torque and returns a fuel economy of 22.3 km per litre.

The BS6 Kwid is expected to demand a price hike of Rs. 10,000 - 15,000 over the current model.

Of course, the BSVI upgrade will also stick to a higher price tag so we expect the retail price sticker of the Renault Kwid to increase by as much as Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. Currently, the ongoing Renault Kwid is priced from Rs 2.83 to Rs 4.92 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
