The work of the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway is scheduled to begin from December 2018

Being built at a cost of about Rs 1 lakh crore, the expressway is a significant construction connected the national capital with the financial capital. This work will allow the commuters to reach Mumbai from Delhi or vice versa within 12 hours, from the current 20 hours. Apart from cutting down travel time between Delhi and Mumbai, the project is also designed to reduce the congestion of Delhi-NCR because the truck traffic will now pass through the outskirts of the city.

Nitin Gadkari has reported to the media,

"We will begin the work on the Rs 1-trillion Delhi-Mumbai expressway from end-December and it will be completed within 30-36 months. Money is not a problem at all. NHAI can raise plenty of cheap money from the market."

The expressway is expected to begin from Gurugram on the Delhi outskirts and run parallel to the existing highway up to Jaipur. From Jaipur, it will turn eastwards to Rajasthan's Alwar and Ratlam in western Madhya Pradesh and then move westwards to Baroda. It will begin in 40 different locations simultaneously, hence, the work may be completed faster.

Thanks to the express, vehicles would be expected to attain speeds up to120kph.
