Tata has just revealed the all-new Safari with bookings starting from the first week of February. Earlier known as the Gravitas, the new Safari is a longer version of the current Harrier to accommodate the new third row of seats. There will be a 6-seat version as well with captain seats for the middle row. It is powered by the same 2-litre FCA-sourced diesel engine making 170 PS/350 Nm of peak power and torque. It can be paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
New-gen Mahindra XUV500
The current Mahindra XUV 500 has been on sale for close to a decade now with a few mid-life updates along the way. The Indian automaker is currently in the final stages of developing an all-new generation of the XUV 500 and its launch has been highly anticipated. Reports suggest that the new XUV 500 may finally launch around April 2021.
New-gen Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra is also developing a new generation for the Scorpio, with test mules having been spotted multiple times in the last 12-13 months. It will be launched after the XUV 500, around mid-2021 and the new model will come with a new interior, refreshed design and all the up-to-date features available currently.
Ford is in the works of reviving its declining sales in the Indian market with a slew of new SUVs being developed for an upcoming launch. One of them is a C-segment SUV codenamed CX757, which was supposed to share its underpinnings with the all-new Mahindra XUV 500 and designed by Pininfarina. But the Mahindra-Ford JV was called off just recently, and since then Ford hasn’t revealed any new information about the upcoming SUV.
Like the Tata Safari, Hyundai is also currently developing a 7-seat SUV based on the new Creta and is expected to be named the ‘Alcazar’. The new SUV should be largely similar to the Creta with minimal changes barring the third row of seats. It is slated for a mid-2021 launch and will compete with the new Tata Safari and the updated MG Hector Plus.
