Ford Equator will be launched in China next year

According to the current reports, the 2021 Ford Equator will measure at 4,905 mm, 1,930 mm and 1,755 mm in length, width and height. The wheelbase is reported to stand at 2,865 mm. Despite this sheer size, the Ford Equator, in the latest leaked images, still manages to look proportionate. It is noteworthy that this car will not follow Ford’s current global design language. On the front end, the new SUV flaunts a pronounced chrome-garnished front grille, thin LED headlights, and low-slung LED aux light. On the side profile, there is not much going on here. The side design is straight-forward with flat lines and slight creases around the wheels.

Toward the rear end, Ford has integrated some exiting bits every here and there. For example, the tailgate sports a dominant EQUATOR lettering along with horizontally-linked taillights and dual exhaust pipes. On the higher variants, Ford Equator can come with a panoramic sunroof. While the exterior is revealed, the interior design still remains under the wraps. However, as what we can expect from a car of this segment, the 2021 Ford Equator is likely to be well-equipped. It is likely to include features like leather seats, touchscreen infotainment system, multi-zone climate control as well as ADAS suit.

Ford Equator is unlikely to make it to our market

With regards to the powertrain options, the Ford Equator is likely to derive power from a 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine which puts out 221 BHP. It is likely to be offered with both manual and automatic gearbox. Moreover, rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive transmission are likely to be available on the Ford Equator.

When launched in China, Ford Equator will take on the likes of Jeep Grand Commander, Hyundai Palisade, Chevrolet Tahoe and more. After the debut in China, this premium SUV will enter the other market as well. However, it is likely that Ford will bring the Equator to the Indian shore. For our market, Ford is planning to introduce a C-SUV model that sits on the platform of the next-gen Mahindra XUV500. This new model will slot between the EcoSport and Endeavour.
