1. Ford Figo 2018 Exterior

Ford Figo 2018 orange front look

Before the advent of Ford Figo facelift 2018, poor design caused the loss of custom of buyers who chose fashion over function

Back in the day, it was the poor and monotonous design that made the Figo lose its custom and a considerable number of buyers who happen to favour fun and look over performance and function. As a matter of fact, this detail of a hindrance couldn’t escape the notice of the manufacturer – Ford India, which took immediate action to tackle such disastrous defect. And that’s the reason why you may get confused, as well excited with the new look of the Figo.

To go into details, the car’s headlamps have been re-profiled, foglamps get smaller compared to that of the previous models and placed at the two ends of the bumper. The front grille, on the other hand, assumes a gaping shape and gets a hexagonal mesh, which may feature chrome surround on the top end models. The vehicle’s blinkers rest tightly on the side-view mirrors - a brilliant idea to state. That said about the all neat retouches, the undersized 14-inch alloy wheels yet turns out to be a big disappointment that could’ve easily been avoided with a more suitable wheelset of longer diameter.

Compared to the other cars of the same class, the hatch arguably takes the first place when it comes to a bulky frame, and the same can be said of its wheelbase. Having said that, the hatchback’s ground clearance (of 174mm) ironically turns out to be able to compete directly against that of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Honda Brio, Hyundai i10, and Hyundai Elite i20.

Other features worth noticing include automatic headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, powered tailgate, quick-heating front seats, and automatic climate control. As to paints on offer, there have been seven different colours of paint in the palette so far.

2. Ford Figo 2018 Interior

Upgraded dashboard installed with a new 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Moving to the content, it’s quite obvious to tell that interior isn’t of the best quality, and can be easily beaten by that of rivals like the Grand i10. Anyway, the dashboard has got retouched and installed with a new 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes with Ford’s Sync3 tech, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility as well. The centre console gets silver trimming, along with AC vents having chrome surround, which together emerge on the monochrome background of black. Driver’s seat, for its own part, becomes adjustable in both terms of height and reach. Meanwhile, the car steering only sees the update to the tilt, the steering wheel is limited in terms of reach adjustment and can cause some negligible discomfort for the owner when driving.

There is not much to say about the rear bench, which can definitely use some more of cushioning for the sake of passengers’ comfort. The recommended number of occupants at a time is 2 and 3 to the max, though the latter one can be a bit of a cram for the whole car’s room. This version of Ford Figo will go without rear A/C vents and folded central armrest, though these two features are usually considered as dispensable.

Looks like the comfort of rear bench occupants was overlooked in the design of this model. The trick is merely just more cushioning

The Titanium+ variant alone, belonging to the higher-spec, is all that you can expect from a hatchback from this segment. It is equipped with the handy automatic climate control, which means that the nightmare of stifling and stuffy air is now history, you will not have to worry about dealing with the boiling heat of summer anymore. This system also comes with MAX A/C, which will cool the cabin down at a gallop. Recreational features include an integrated music system, Bluetooth, AUX, and USB connectivity. The model itself at the same time gets Ford’s SYNC system that allows you to make phone calls using voice commands or play music.

One thing to be noticed easily is this version’s suspension operates smoother compared to that of Swift’s. But unfortunately, the shock absorbers are not so much of an improvement and turns out to fail quite dismally when it comes to tackling tough terrains. Furthermore, the electronic power steering may cause some difficulties, thus disturbing the steering process, and interaction between driver and the steering system compared to the efficient hydraulic unit of old Figo. Automatic transmission is sadly not available in the top-spec variant.

Speaking of safety features, Ford Figo goes with driver airbag & passenger airbag as standard, meanwhile, the top spec variants exclusively feature six airbags. ABS with EBD have also been incorporated in the vehicle and become standard fitment in the Trend variants. Before this, such braking system could only be seen in the Titanium and Titanium +.

There are in total 5 variants of the 2018 facelift. In regard to the bottom-level trim models, the Ambiente gets the basic Dual Airbags, as well as a passenger side mirror, and front electric windows. And in case you are in no position to squander savings, the Ambiente will be your best bet since it has a basic safety net in place.

3. Ford Figo 2018 Performance

The 2018 facelift of Ford Figo is available with two petrol and one diesel engines

And getting to the party piece, the upcoming 2018 facelift presents two options for petrol engines and one for diesel engines. To be more specific, the new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol (in two states of tune) will take the place of the obsolete 1.2-litre 4-cylinder block, which was built based on the first-gen Figo’s petrol engine. In fact, the petrol engine produces either 75PS or 85PS of power (depends on the tune). A 1.5-litre diesel engine, which in turn generates 95PS of power and 215Nm of torque, is also on tap.
