Kia’s all-new sub-4-metre SUV codenamed QYI will more likely to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Kia is set to establish a foothold in the Indian market, after the brilliant initial success in the country with the launch of Kia Seltos. So, while Kia’s next player is the Carnival MPV, it comes as no surprise that the company is looking to invest more in the popular and hotly-contested SUV segment. Reports said that Kia is set to unveil an all-new sub-four-metre SUV codenamed QYI after the Seltos at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Kia has few models lined up for the Indian market, including the Carnival MPV and a new subcompact SUV codenamed QYi.

Ahead of its showcase, the first set of spy shots of the Kia QYi have surfaced on the Internet. The test car, albeit being heavily camouflaged, appears to be quite similar to the Kia Stonic which was introduced at the Auto Expo last year. It is reported to share the platform with the Hyundai Venue and sits under the four-metre length mark.

Upfront, the new subcompact SUV is likely to feature a familiar nose with LED headlamps and brand’s signature Tiger Nose grille as seen in the Seltos. While interior details of new Kia car are yet to be known, we expect the SUV to be as feature-laden as the Seltos sibling.

Kia QYi is more likely to be based on Venue's platform and shares the same engine setup with the Hyundai as well.

It’s a bit early to confirm anything regarding its mechanical package. As this SUV is likely to share the architecture with the Venue, we think that the car might share the powertrain options with its Hyundai cousin as well. That said, the all-new Hyundai QYi might employ a BSVI-compliant 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor that comes liked to a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed AT option. Besides that, Kia’s new SUV is likely to offer a 1.4-litre diesel engine paired with a 6-speed MT unit.

At launch, the new Kia QYi subcompact SUV will fight tooth and nails with its cousin Hyundai Venue and other models like Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon. Prices of the car are estimated at around Rs 7 Lakh to Rs 12 Lakh (ex-showroom).
