Kia Sonet will be launched next month. Ahead of the official launch date, the fuel-efficient specs of the upcoming compact SUV are leaked online.
Kia Sonet will be the next big launch fromo the South Korean premium carmaker in the Indian market. Earlier this month, Kia Motors Inia took the wrap of the upcoming sub-compact SUV as well as opened the booking for this new car. It is claimed that on the first day, Kia garnered over 6,500 bookings for the upcoming model, which, in turn, resulted into establishment of a new record in the automotive market. Specifications of the Kia Sonet have also been revealed and hence, we now even know the fuel mileage figures of the Kia Sonet. With this, it has been established that the petrol-manual variants of the Kia Sonet, which include both naturally-aspirated and turbocharged motors, are more fuel-efficient than the manual version of the petrol-only 2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza.
As we have been reporting, the Kia Sonet will come with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This turbocharged engine is capable of making 120 PS and 172 Nm. It is mated to either a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The mileage figures of these powertrains are 18.3kmpl and 18.2kmpl for iMT and DCT versions, respectively. The other petrol engine is the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder mill that is good for 83 PS/115 Nm. Paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, this petrol engine returns a mileage of 18.4 kmpl, which is slightly higher than that of the turbocharged unit.
Hence, the DCT-equipped Kia Sonet is outshined by segnemt leading Maruti Brezza in terms of fuel efficiency. Maruti Brezza’s 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine is claimed to offer a mileage of 18.76 kmpl if mated to the 4-speed automatic gearbox with a smart hybrid system. However, with the manual gearbox, it is the Kia Sonet that delivers a higher mileage than Maruti Brezza’s manual-petrol variant, whose fuel efficiency is rated at 17.03 kmpl.
The diesel range derives power from a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine comes with two choices of transmission, a 6-speed manual gearbox and 6-speed automatic. While the manual version is capable of making 100 PS and 240 Nm, the automatic-diesel powertrain belts out a top power of 115 PS and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. As for the fuel efficiency, these two powertrains offer decent mileages of 24.1 kmpl and 19.0 kmpl, respectively. Considering that Sonet’s major rival, Maruti Brezza, is not available with a diesel engine, this highly-fuel-efficient diesel option can be an advantage for the Sonet in this competition.
With these fuel mileage figures, you can feel assured that the Kia Sonet can offer a class-leading fuel efficiency. In addition, the upcoming SUV from Kia also offers a host of premium features. It has been confirmed by Kia that the Sonet will get some segment-first or best-in-class features like ventilated front seats, front parking sensors, sound-controlled ambient lighting as well as the largest-in-segment 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Kia Sonet is all set to go on sale in the Indian market in September. Prices are yet to be revealed, but it is expected that Kia will price its new compact SUV from Rs 8 lakh-Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). Kia Sonet will take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon.
