The Kia SP2i, which will become the first-ever product from the South Korean carmaker in India, has been teased through official design sketches

Kia Motors has recently teased the design of the SP2i through official sketches. The Kia SP2i is the premium B-SUV with which the company will mark its local debut. Going by these sketches, the production model looks largely identical to the SP Signature concept, which is a progression of the SP Concept.

Underpinning the Kia SP2i is an upgraded version of the Creta's platform. The repurposed architecture will even form the base of the next-gen Creta.

Up front, the SP2i employs Kia's signature Tiger Nose radiator grille which is inspired by the Bengal tiger. For better illumination, the SUV gets sharp LED headlamps with 3D light graphics along with a diamond pattern at their trailing edges. Moreover, the car gets vertically stacked compact LED fog lamps, an aggressive bumper and a skid plate. The overall picture gets completed with the equipment of sleek LED tail lamps, a chunky bumper with a metallic muffler effect and a skid plate.

We expect that the interior of the car to feature a modern design and high-quality elements. The features which are expected to be offered with the SP2i include an electric sunroof, a 360-degree camera system, a head-up display, a fully-digital instrument cluster, WiFi hotspot, wireless charging and much more.

Byung Chul Juh, Head of Kia Styling at Kia Motors Corporation, comments: “We have created a car which stands out everywhere, from the city to the countryside. Its robust yet sporty design will be matched by a wide range of features and technologies that are universally suited to younger buyers in markets around the world. Our new small SUV is a proposition that no other car in its class will match.”

The Kia SP2i will be offered with a  1.5L NA petrol unit and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit.

The Kia SP2i is a bigger and much more rugged model than the Kia Stonic. The upcoming SUV will be based on an upgraded version of the Hyundai Creta's platform. Mechanically, the SUV will be offered with a 1.5L NA petrol unit and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit. Transmission options for the SUV will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Kia SP2i will debut in July, at an expected price of 10-16 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the SUV will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks.
