The Japanese luxury car brand Lexus has just launched a new variant of its LS 500h, dubbed the Lexus LS 500h Nishijin in India at the whopping price of Rs 2.22 crore. The Lexus LS 500h Nishijin commands a Rs 31 lakh premium over the entry-level variant which is currently on sale at Rs 1.91 crore (all prices, ex-showroom). Alongside the newly-added variant, Lexus has also given the LS 500h with some feature updates. Here’s all you need to know.
In terms of design, the new Lexus LS 500h Nishijin gets a host of changes to its bumper and interior, based on the traditional Japanese handicrafts “Nishijin and Haku”. As revealed by Lexus, the LS 500h Nishijin gets inspiration from the path of the moonlight falling on the sea – a rare phenomenon occurs a few days pre and after the full moon. The intricately woven silver threads of brocade on the inside represents the shimmering waves while the thin “Haku” platinum metal foil depicts the moonlight falling down on the sea.
With such exquisite craftsmanship, the LS 500h Nishijin comes to offer a comfortable and unrivalled in-car experience. That said, it does feel very special though, it doesn’t lend the car a much different look compared to the standard LS 500h model. The new Lexus LS500h variant gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, redesigned physical buttons for better visibility and practicality.
Powering the Lexus LS 500h Nishijin is the same 3.5-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine that is paired with an electric motor. The combined power and torque output are at 354 BHP and 350 Nm, respectively. Power í sent to the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Lexus LS 500h Nishijin can accelerate to 100 kmph from a standstill in just 5.4 seconds. It comes as a decent rival against the models like Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8L and BMW 7-Series.
