Mahindra Funster Convertible EV Unveiled At Auto Expo 2020

Mahindra has unveiled the Funster EV concept at the Auto Expo 2020. The teaser for the concept car was recently released on the internet.

The Funster EV concept comes with a 59.1 kWh battery package which has a claimed travel range of 520 km on a single charge. The vehicle gets dual electric motors which can generate a maximum power of 313 PS. Thanks to an AWD system, the car can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 200 kmph.

In the front, the Mahindra Funster EV concept comes with a tri-beam LED headlight system with sharp triple fog lights in the bumpers, a toothy and an illuminated Mahindra grille and a brand logo in the centre. The EV has a three-door construction with a 2+2 seating layout which bears some a strong resemblance to that of the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. Nevertheless, in the Funster, scissor doors have been added for additional sportiness.

The side profile gets a simple but elegant design with a few bold character lines which extend towards the rear haunches. The home-grown automaker also keeps up with the trend very well with a lightbar running through the boot to connect the taillights. These design components also suggest some traits what can be expected for the next-gen XUV500.

This EV is unlikely to be introduced to the Indian auto market; instead, an all-electric XUV500 will start to go on sale by late 2021. However, the ICE-powered second-gen XUV500 is expected to be launched before this. The electric XUV500 could be priced at about INR 25 lakh which helps it compete against the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
