Maruti Dzire 30 TIMES More Popular Than Ford Aspire

Maruti Dzire is the most-sold compact sedan in the country for the financial year 2019. The carmaker sold a total of 1.79 lakh examples of the Dzire in between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020. The spacious interior and the brand’s reliable after-sales and service are few of the many reasons that help the Dzire sell in good numbers. However, the Dzire scores low on safety. It comes with 2 airbags only. Side and curtain airbags are not even available as an option. However, the car that offers them – Ford Aspire, could only register a sales figure of 6,568 units in the last fiscal, which is almost 30 times lower than the Dzire's sales figure.

Maruti Dzire was also available with the option of a diesel engine in the BS-4 era.

The Ford Aspire scored a crash test rating of 3 stars at G-NCAP with just dual-front airbags. However, the Made in India example with 6 airbags scored 4-star rating at the L-NCAP crash test. The Dzire, on the other hand, has been never to the G-NCAP’s testbed. But, its hatchback sibling was evaluated by G-NCAP and it scored a 2-star crash test rating.

The Dzire does look bigger in comparison to the Aspire, thanks to its bulbous body shape. However, both of these cars are almost identical in terms of dimensions. They boast of an identical length of 3,999 mm. But, it is the Dzire that is wider than Aspire by 26 mm, while the Aspire is taller than the Dzire by 10 mm. The Aspire also gets the longest wheelbase in the segment, measuring at 2,490 mm. It is 40 mm longer than that of the Dzire. The longer wheelbase of the Aspire also aids it with better high-speed stability and better driving dynamics than the Dzire.

Ford Aspire comes with the most-powerful diesel engine in its segment.

The Aspire offers 2 engine options to its buyers. There is a 1.2L 3-pot petrol motor that puts out 96 PS of peak power and a bigger 1.5L turbocharged diesel that dishes out 100 PS of peak power output. In comparison, the Dzire comes equipped with a 4-cylinder DualJet petrol motor only. This unit is capable of churning out a peak power output of 90 PS. The prices of the Dzire start at Rs. 5.89 lakh, while the Aspire starts at 5.99 lakh.
