MG Gloster Bookings Commence, To Rival Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour

Essentially a rebadged Maxus D90, the MG Gloster will be priced at par with the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The new model could have a base price of Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom)

MG Motors India has officially revealed the Gloster, its upcoming Maxus D90-based premium SUV that will be positioned at par with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The carmaker has even started accepting bookings for its flagship offering. One can book the upcoming MG SUV for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. A person can book the SUV online via the company’s official website or can visit the local dealership. The automaker has also revealed all the dimension, trims and specs of the SUV. The MG Gloster will be the most expensive model in the carmaker’s local stable. It will be offered in a total of 4 variants, namely Super, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy.

It’ll derive power from a 2.0-litre oil burner, which will be offered in two different states of tune. The first engine option will employ a single turbocharger, which puts out power and torque outputs of 163bhp and 375 Nm. The top-spec engine features twin-turbochargers that produce 218bhp of power and 480 Nm of twisting force.

Both the engine options will come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. The entry-level models of the car will be offered in two-wheel-drive configuration, while the top-spec variants will come with shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive with selectable drive modes. In India, the SUV will be available in four different trim levels namely- Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy. The Super and Smart variants of the car will be offered in 6-seat configuration with captain seats in the middle. The Super trim of the SUV will be retailed in 7-seater configuration. The Sharp trim can be offered with either of the seating arrangements.

Talking about its dimensions, the upcoming MG SUV is 4,985 mm long, 1,926 mm wide, 1,867 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. Inside, it will come loaded with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility,  i-Smart connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, powered and heated front seats, ventilation, memory and massage function for the driver seat, 3-zone climate control, a tyre pressure monitor, a powered tailgate, LED headlamps and more. Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ESP, traction control, hill-start assist and hill descent control and much more. Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Toyota Fortuner.
