The Tata Harrier’s adversary, MG Hector revealed in its latest official video yesterday, divulging the feature highlights of the upcoming SUV.

MG Motors will soon make its first fresh release in the Indian auto market with an all-new SUV named MG Hector in the festive season of the calendar year. Despite being heavily camouflaged during the test runs, the exclusive features of the Hector are still exposed to the public eyes.

Sooner rather than later, the MG Hector will come to lock horns with the likes of Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass in the domestic space. The official video here displays a lot about the car’s features package, from the full LED headlights to the D-Pillar. That said, lying under the skin-tight camo wrap is the panoramic sunroof that seems to cover almost the length of the vehicle. Also, from the video, we can get a glimpse of the digital 7-inch instrument cluster as well as the anti-glare interior mirror.

In essence, the upcoming British-branded SUV will features independent LED daytime running lights while the main set of headlamps sit right below in the front bumper like that of the Tata Harrier. The front facade looks sporty and aggressive with full LED quad-headlamp and big air intake housing the MG’s badge. The C and D pillars are likely to be blackened out giving a floating effect to the SUV.

Ensuring to bring in the first “connected car” in the segment of sports utility vehicles, MG Motor will equip its Hector with a user-friendly operating system with eSIM (embed SIM) that facilitates the internet connecting and data supplying to its owners. Besides, it might also get a whole bunch of proprietary updates making a segment-leading model in the Indian car space.

Engine-wise, the MG Hector will exploit the power from a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel burner as similar as the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass. The Harrier’s engine is capable of producing 140 PS of max power while that of the Compass is good enough for a decent power of 173 PS. These two SUVs share the same torque figure of 350 Nm units. The Hector, in the immediate future, will for sure get more power than the Harrier counterpart.

MG Hector will also please the petrolheads with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine tuned for the maximum power of 143 PS and the peak torque of 250 Nm. The engine, together with the diesel version, will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, yet a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission could be offered in the petrol model exclusively.

Expected to be locally-manufactured in India, the MG Hector can get a very competitive price bracket. Launch timeline is anticipated during the second half of 2019.
