The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be powered by new petrol and diesel engines and will be based on an all-new platform.

Mahindra & Mahindra is currently working on a lot of new vehicles. The automaker will introduce a newer model of Scorpio, XUV500 and Thar. Earlier, we’ve seen plenty of images and videos of the upcoming new-gen Mahindra Thar testing on the public roads. Recently, the all-new SUV was spied again while going through test runs and a lot of new details about the upcoming model can be seen in the video embedded below.  The video has been uploaded by a YouTube channel named as ‘HMD AutoVlogs’, and it gives a very detailed look of the 2020 Mahindra Thar.

The design language of the all-new SUV will remain similar to that of the outgoing model. We expect the dimension of the new Mahindra Thar to be bigger than the previous model. The front fascia of the car features conventional round headlamps, 7-slat grille, a new front bumper along with integrated fog lamps. The SUV also features sporty looking five-spoke alloy wheels. The front wheels get disc brakes, while the rear wheels have drum brakes on it.

The off-roader will be powered by a petrol and diesel engine

The 2020 Mahindra Thar you see here was driven leisurely on the highway, we guess the carmaker is testing the low-speed driveability of the SUV. Moreover, the car also comes close to the camera, and we were not able to hear any diesel clatter. So, it seems like that this is the petrol trim of the SUV.

The mechanical specs of the car are yet to be revealed by the carmaker, but we expect it to be a 1.5-litre ‘mStallion’ engine, which was also displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo. The 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine churns out 165 PS of peak power and 280 Nm of twisting force. The power plant is likely to be the most potent ever offered on the Thar. Moreover, the off-roader will also be offered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 140 PS and 320 Nm. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The launch date of the SUV is still undercover but is expected to hit the Indian shores in the coming months.
