New Skoda Octavia CNG Can Go 690 Km Without Re-fuelling

The new Skoda Octavia has been revealed for the European market with a 1.5-litre CNG powertrain option.

Earlier last year, Skoda unveiled the new Octavia to the world, thereby promising that it would start introducing the new sedan in several parts of the world in the time to follow. It also  Now, the Czech automaker has just unveiled the Skoda Octavia CNG variant that is called the Octavia G-Tec. The new version of the latest Skoda Octavia is powered by a 130 HP 1.5-litre petrol engine that also runs on CNG. In the pure petrol mode, this Octy can deliver a fuel mileage of 21.7 kmpl while that of the CNG variant is 27.77 km/kg.

Also, the engine is claimed to release 25% less carbon dioxide emissions and considerably less nitrogen oxide than the ICE counterparts. The sedan gets three tanks beneath its bodywork that can store around 17.33 kg of CNG. There’s also a smaller 9-litre tank that stores the fuel when the CNG is exhausted.

2020 Skoda Octavia Walkaround

The 2020 Skoda Octavia CNG can return a range of up to 500 km in single CNG mode along with an additional 190 km range for the regular petrol mode, combined to make a total driving range of 690 km for the new Octavia. Certainly, there’s a drop in the cargo capacity as the CNG tanks have taken up some place under the body. The boot space is now is down from 590 litres to 455 litres but it’s not bad when compared with some factory-fitted CNG cars in India.

Particularly, under the low CNG levels, the car will automatically switch to petrol without manual action. As the world is pacing towards the stringent emission norms, Skoda is busy expanding its lineup to welcome more alternate propulsion system in their vehicles. Given the enhancing infrastructure of CNG cars in India, the 2020 Skoda Octavia CNG might be a feasible option if the company brings the CKD kits of the G-TEC variant to our country.
