A trademark application for ‘Datsun Magnite’ has been filed by Nissan last year. Recently, a trademark for ‘Nissan Magnite’ has been filed by the Japanese auto company. The Nissan Magnite logo must also have been created and its trademark application has also been filed. Accordingly, the upcoming Maruti Vitara Brezza rival from Nissan could be named Nissan Magnite. The automaker has commenced the marketing campaign of the product with several teaser images and the product is slated for launch in mid-2020.
The Nissan Magnite will be an SUV that is specifically developed for India with lower GST on sub-4-metre ICE four-wheelers kept in mind. The vehicle is likely to be underpinned by the CMF-A+ platform which is an upgraded version of the CMF-A platform which supports the Renault Kwid.
The Nissan Magnite is expected to share the HR10 1.0-litre motor with the Renault HBC which is also a forthcoming under-4000-mm India-bound B-SUV underpinned by the CMF-A+ platform. This turbo three-cyl gasoline burner is available in two states of tunes: 100 PS/160 Nm and 117PS/170 Nm for international-spec Nissan models. Moreover, Nissan also offers one more HRA0 1.0-litre turbo 3-cyl petrol motor which can generate 100 PS against 152 Nm. Mated to the Xtronic CVT, this motor helps the Nissan Almera (new Nissan Sunny, which is on sale in Thailand) deliver an impressive fuel mileage of 23.3 kmpl.
The Nissan Magnite is expected to be underpinned by the same platform as the Renault HBC.
Once launched in India, the upcoming Nissan compact SUV is expected to have a starting price from Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle will compete against Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Marut Vitara Brezza, Kia Sonet and the upcoming Renault HBC.
