MINI India has just launched the Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition in India, at Rs 46.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Only 15 units of this CBU model has been allocated for the Indian market. The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition is a tribute to the Mini John Cooper Works GP by ‘bringing authentic racetrack flair to the road’. Your question of why you need a tribute act for a current model selling besides this is as good as mine. The limited-edition facsimile of the pricier limited-edition Works GP has racing-inspired styling with hosts of visual enhancements and is married with the finest quality material.
The JCW GP Inspired edition takes inspiration from MINI’s storied motorsport heritage, featuring exterior changes like a contrasting metal silver metallic roof, racing grey metallic colour, mirror caps, and a JCW rear spoiler. There are GP badged wheel hub caps for the 18-inch two-tone alloys while the head and tail lamps, front and rear MINI emblem, fuel filler cap, door handles, and the grille surrounds all get the blacked-out treatment. The air intakes and the side scuttles get carbon-fibre highlights as well.
The motorsport heritage theme continues on the inside of the Inspired Edition, the sport bucket seats now clad in leather Dinamica finish with GP badging. There’s red stitching on the front and back floor mats, with the front two mats sprouting GP badges as well. The steering wheel is wrapped in ‘Walknappa” leather with contrast stitching and gets exclusive 3D-printed paddle shifters with GP badging. The key receives a 3D-printed GP inspired keycap as well, helpful if the plethora of badges everywhere else in the car fails to jog your memory.
There’s a 6.5-inch touchscreen circular central panel with an LED ring surrounding it and it supports Apple Carplay, Radio MINI, and Mini navigation system. Harman Kardon supplies a 12-speaker with an 8-channel digital amplifier audio system. A panorama roof comes as standard allowing an ample amount of light in the cabin. On the safety front, it comes with airbags for both the front seats, 3-point seatbelts, ABS with EBD and DSC, and run-flat indicators.
The MINI JCW GP Inspired Edition comes with the TwinPower 2.0 litre turbo four-pot which churns out 231 Ps and 320 Nm of power and torque figures respectively and is mated to an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. This gives the Inspired Edition a 0-100 kmph time of 6.1 seconds, comfortably the fastest hatchback in India currently.
