Renault Kiger finally goes on sale today in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs. 5.45 lakh. The sub-4m compact-SUV will rival the likes of Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite and more. Read the detailed report here.
In the Indian auto market, the sub-4m compact-SUV space is the hotly contested one. Also, it has managed to be one of the biggest ones as well. To have some share of this pie, Renault has finally launched the Kiger today at a starting price of Rs. 5.45 lakh. The Renault Kiger tops out at Rs. 9.55 lakh. Apart from being the newest contender in the sub-4m compact-SUV space, it comes up as the cheapest one as well. Moreover, the Kiger’s spot-on pricing and attractive design could help it in receiving the same love as its mechanical twin – Nissan Magnite.
Based on the same underpinnings as the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger uses a different approach for the design. It follows Renault’s family design language and has a lot of Kwid and Duster-inspired design cues. On the front, it gets a ‘Winged’ grille, which is flanked by slim LED DRL housings on the sides. Lower down the front bumper, it gets triple-barrel LED headlamps cluster. Also, the chin looks rugged, thanks to the black lower air dam. On the sides, it gets pronounced wheel arches that feature all-black cladding. While this treatment accentuates its SUV theme, it also helps in breaking the visual bulk.
There are functional roof rails on the hat, which look cool as well. The roof features a distinctive effect for the sheet metal that continues to the split-type rear spoiler. Along with the C-shaped LED tail lamps, the rear facet of the Renault Kiger looks distinctive. On the inside, the cabin comes loaded with a lot of features. It gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, 7.0-inch instrument cluster, cruise control, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, climate control, PM2.5 air filter and more.
For the powertrain duties, it gets two engine options – 1.0L naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo-petrol. Both of these engines feature a 3-cylinder configuration. The naturally-aspirated unit is tuned to put out 72 PS against 96 Nm, and it can be had mated to either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. The turbo-petrol motor develops 100 PS and 160 Nm and is available with either a 5-speed MT or a CVT. The Renault Kiger gets six colour options - Planet Grey, Ice Cool White, Moonlight Grey, Caspian Blue, Mahogany Brown, and Radiant Red with Mystery Black Roof.
