While the Nissan Magnite goes on sale early next month, the Renault Kiger SUV, its not-so-distant cousin, will hit the showrooms next year.

Renault India has just shed the veil off its Kiger in the concept guise to the press and public. Confirmed with the name Kiger, the production-spec version of the sub-compact SUV will bear about 80% resemblance to the concept model. The Renault Kiger SUV is essentially a joint effort between the company’s teams in France and India. As per the carmaker, the objective of designing and developing the Renault Kiger is to bring in a sub-four-metre SUV that features an imposing frontal boldness, thus getting an unmistakable road presence. Basically, the production of the Renault Kiger concept car will be a close cousin to the Nissan Magnite

The company has taken a lot of insights and feedback from Indian customers. The Renault Kiger follows the same design trend seen in the Kwid and Triber which are doing pretty well in the Indian market. The highlighting design elements in the concept car include two-level full-LED headlamps combined with neon blinkers, a winged front grille with two horizontal slats housing a large Renault logo. There’s a set of massive 19-inch wheels shod with rugged tyres dominating the side profile.

The body cladding looks sturdy. The attractive C-shaped tail lamps with signature lighting, roof-mounted spoiler are also parts of the key features of the model. A special paint job that can change its hue depending on the light and angle has been applied to the Kiger concept SUV. Overall, the Renault Kiger gets a dynamic styling design that should be liked by young buyers. Do note that it’s just a concept avatar and it would be interesting to see which features will be carried forward on the production model.

The interior of the Renault Kiger SUV is not revealed but reports suggested that it would bear some changes from that of the Triber. Although the digital instrument cluster, steering, some buttons, and switchgear will be quite similar to the ones in the Triber, there will be a few other differences like steering-mounted controls to set the Kiger’s interior apart from its bigger brother’s unit.

The upcoming Renault Kiger SUV might offer four engine-gearbox options under the hood, which are derived from the Nissan Magnite. There will be a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine mated to a manual and an AMT option, along with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor available with either an MT or a CVT automatic unit. While the pricing details of the Renault Kiger remain to be known, we expect the Kiger prices to match that of the Nissan Magnite. Upon its launch, the Renault Kiger will rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Toyota Urban Cruiser, and more.
