Sub-4-meter SUV Sales Analysis - December 2020, Hyundai Venue Grabs Top Spot

Hyundai Venue was the top-selling sub-4-meter SUV of December 2020. Here’s the sales analysis of sub-4-meter SUVs offered in the Indian market.

The sub-4-meter SUV segment is India’s most competitive segment. This segment consists of cars like Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Mahindra XUV300, Honda WR-V and Nissan Magnite. All these SUVs are getting sold in good numbers. Last month, car sales were much better as compared to other months of 2020. Talking about the sub-4-meter space, the Hyundai Venue was the top-selling SUV as the automaker managed to retail 12,313 units. Maruti Vitara Brezza grabbed the second position and is slightly below the Hyundai SUV by retailing 12,251 units. Tata Nexon was the third top-selling SUV of December 2020.

Tata sold 6,835 units of Nexon last month. One can see that there is a huge difference between the sales number of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. A few months back, Kia launched its first-ever sub-4-meter SUV in India, Sonet. It has a very strong demand in India, but it showed poor sales last month as the automaker sold 5,959 units of the SUV. After Kia Sonet, the fourth position has been taken by Mahindra XUV300. Mahindra & Mahindra managed to retail 3,974 units of the car and was followed by Toyota Urban Cruiser with just 1,762 units.

The last three cars achieved three-digit sales numbers, and it consists of Ford EcoSport (934), Honda WR-V (930) and Nissan Magnite (560). The Nissan SUV has been recently launched on our market, so one can expect the SUV to achieve amazing sales figures in the coming months. Nissan has registered more than 30,000 bookings of the SUV. This shows the popularity of the Magnite among Indian buyers. Mechanically, it derives power from 1.0-litre petrol and turbocharged petrol engine, which comes paired with a 5-speed MT or a CVT. It gets retailed at a starting price of Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base trim and goes all the way up to Rs 9.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec variant.
