Tata Nexon Electric To Get Range and Power Improvements In Foreseeable Future

With fossil fuel now rapidly depleting, many carmakers are working towards building electric vehicles. In India, the shift has been quite slow, but it steady nonetheless. Where early electric vehicles were a compromise over traditional petrol and diesel cars, new EVs are capable of holding a candle to them. Tata Motors had introduced their own EV contender in the market during the end of the last year.

Tata Nexon EV will soon receive updates to improve range and/or performance

Although the Nexon EV is quite a capable car, it seems like Tata Motors is already working on upgrading it. Mr Anand Kulkarni, Vehicle Line Director at Tata Motors EV, has recently stated that the company’s Ziptron technology will continuously be worked upon for improvement. Earlier, Tata had also announced the 'New Forever’ philosophy, under which all its cars shall receive updates and upgrades every few months.

Tata Nexon EV is the only electric car by the homegrown available to the general public. There is another in the company’s range, Tata Tigor EV, but that is only limited to commercial fleet operators. Tata’s electric SUV is good for a maximum power of 123 PS and 245 Nm, and like a majority of EVs out there, comes mated to a single-speed gearbox. The 30.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery is good for a maximum driving range of 320 Km. It takes 8 hours to charge the battery from 20% to 100% using a regular charger, but only an hour to charge from 0 to 80% via a fast charger.

Currently, Tata Nexon EV has no real competition in the Indian market. There are a limited number of EVs in the market, and absolutely none in the same price range as the electric Nexon (Rs. 13.99 lakh to 15.99 lakh). Currently, its closest rivals are the Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV, both of which are significantly more expensive. Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to launch the XUV300 EV in the Indian market soon, which is expected to be a direct rival to the electric Tata SUV.
