At a considerably more reasonable price than its contenders, the new model, Tesla EV compact hatchback will soon be released in 2022.

The new hatchback will have great cost potentialities

It has been announced by Tesla general director, Elon Musk that a compact electric car will possibly be manufactured by Tesla “within the next five years”. Despite the company’s efforts to maintain its production of the Model 3 on the top, the forthcoming competitor to Volkswagen ID will be the determinant factor to Tesla’s self-establishment to be an international car producer in the long run
Last week, the company announced that the new hatchback is expected to be assembled in a new facility in Shanghai. This coincidence with the revelation of some information about Tesla model Y. Thanks to the capacity of 500000 cars a year, the two models are expected to have considerable market potentials.

Compared to its rival, the 2020 Volkswagen’s ID, Tesla models will be debuted a bit later; however, this does not frustrate the latter’s ambitions. It is convinced that they have much cheaper home-grown battery packs, which is considered to be a plus point over the former.
It is believed that Tesla and its companion, Panasonic, has an enormous advantage in terms of manufacturing batteries’ cost, one of the primary problems that all EV car manufacturers are wrestling with.
To be more specific, the ID hatchback is expected to cost about £27,000 when it comes out. Its battery packs cost approximately €200 per kWh (approximately £175). On the other hand, its opponent, the Volkswagen ID, will have 60kWh battery with a pack costing up to €12,000 (approximately £10,600) a car, a massive amount of money in comparison with the traditional petrol engine and automatic gearbox.
As revealed by a research conducted by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, average battery manufacturers are likely to reach €100 per kWh by 2025, which is also the time for an EV revolution, according to what experts believe. Nevertheless, by 2020, Tesla and Panasonic are in advance of their times with batteries costing €100 per kWh. A Golf-sized Tesla released in 2022 is expected to have a €70-per-kWh battery, which means that it can produce a 60kWh pack with the price of only €4200 (about £3700). However, before Tesla makes this become a reality, it needs to reach an agreement on the production and development of Model 3.
The company also intends to equip the new hatchback with new ‘flex circuits”. Flex circuits which are expected in the Model Y crossover, are greatly thin conductive elements located between very thin flexible plastic mouldings. The new flex circuits can use a wiring loom length of just 100 metres in comparison with 3km of wiring in the Model X and 1.5km of wiring in Model 3. If the 2022 compact Tesla is equipped with this advanced technology, it will have another great advantage in terms of cost.

China is a potential market for the Tesla EVs

Since China is the largest market for EVs, the 2022 hatchback has great potentialities there. Furthermore, many big cities in China are highly polluted. These are the reasons why the new compact Tesla will be assembled in Tesla (Shanghai) Co Ltd.
Thanks to China’s great automotive production capacities, the construction and organization of this new plant will be strongly supported. This means that building a car plant in China is probably a much more simple process than that in Western Europe or in the US.
