1. Ford Endeavour 2018 Exterior

The Endeavour still retains its muscular style. The designers from Ford made an effort to remain the exterior bold. However, that the design for timidness is simple, builds up a menacing but butch look than any vehicles priced under Rs 30 Lakhs. Having been influenced by its global design language, the new Ford Endeavour 2018 owns the style which executed quite splendidly. Stepping up front, the XXL version of the grille from the Ford EcoSport will catch your attention straight away. It stands tall, garnished heavily in chrome and houses a sizable Blue Oval badge that is attractive from a mile away. It is also equipped with Bi-Xenon illumination and L-shaped LED DRLs. It offers a decent beam range for visibility in pitch-dark nights, while the high beam lamps are regular halogen bulbs. In general, the Endeavour's design comes across as smart and attractive because of its simplicity.

As aforementioned, the vehicle possesses tech loaded to the teeth, it gets Terrain Management System with four adjustment settings as Snow/Mud/ Grass, Sand, and Rock. Other impressive features in the list include the modern instrument cluster, electrically operable driver's seat, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, rear air-con, Ford SYNC 3 system with voice control, and a large 8-inch display screen with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

3. Ford Endeavour 2018 Performance

3.1 Engine

Ford Endeavour is available with two diesel engine options.

The first option powers with a 3.2 litre, 5-cylinder diesel which is good enough for 197 bhp while its peak torque stands at 470 Nm. There's only a 6-speed automatic transmission with the engine and merely four-wheel-drive. The second diesel is the smaller 2.2 litre, 4-cylinder which powers up to 155 bhp and gets 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission options. The auto one has only in 2 wheel drive while the manual comes in just 4X4 on this engine variant.

The 2.2 litre Ford Endeavour misses out on some equipment when compared to the 3.2-litre version, but the 2.2 litres would not disappoint you at all. With the price around  Rs 25 lakh, the Ford Endeavour Titanium 2.2 4x2 AT is the model that receives much more recommendation than the Toyota Fortuner. If you are in the market for a full grown SUV and are not looking for fancy bits like a sun-roof, then the 2.2-litre Endeavor will make more sense than the 3.2 litres one. The bigger engine is mainly for people looking for more power and great off-roading capability. If it comes to an everyday city SUV or a weekend getaway vehicle, the 2.2L Endeavour definitely makes a perfect sense.

In general, Ford Endeavour is a perfect mix of luxury, punchy diesel mills and comfort, with a strong road presence. And more importantly, the 5-star safety rating features such as ABS with EBD, ESP, 7-airbags and hill launch assist makes it a tempting buy when compared to others in the same class.

3.2 Transmission

If you are longing for buying a Ford Endeavour with a manual transmission, you should look for something else or might consider the Ford Endeavour automatic as well, which can be explained by the fact that Ford India has silently discontinued the manual transmission models of the Endeavour in India. If you go to to the Ford India website, it only shows these three variants; 2.2-litre 4x2 Titanium AT, 2.2-litre 4x2 Trend AT, and the 3.2-litre 4x4 Titanium AT. The downloadable brochure on the Ford India website lists out solely these three models.

3.3 Handling

Ford draws precious experience from its ownership of Jaguar and Land Rover. While the old version of Endeavour was much more like a boat with wheels, the new model is a milestone in terms of both ride quality and handling. First and foremost, when it comes to the ride, the Endeavour is a high riding SUV which is quite comfortable. It does gobble up potholes and other undulations in the road with its massive 265/60 R18 tyres and well set up damping. As a result, Ford has done a mighty good job of setting up the new Endeavour for the Indian market.

The handling has not been compromised to make it ungainly and floaty around bends. Being a high riding SUV there is a fair bit of the body roll, especially when considering its sheer bulk, the Endeavour does behave well in taking a corner at moderate or high speeds. The all-wheel-drive system has also become far more intelligent than others in the segment.

Overall, the Ford Endeavour is the better car in terms of performance, design and equipment - provided you can spring for the Titanium trim. And so it is the Endeavour that wins this battle here - just as it won over our jury and knocked the Fortuner out to bag the Fullsize SUV of the Year at the NDTV Car and Bike Awards 2017.
